DS Risk Warning: Weather; Wind

 Hello all,

The Met Office have just issued an Amber warning of wind affecting South West England covering our operational area.

They expect:

A spell of very strong winds will develop across much of Wales and a large swathe of central England during Tuesday before easing from the west during Tuesday evening. Gusts are likely to widely reach 50-55 mph inland with some sites seeing 60-65 mph. Exposed coastal locations in the west and some higher ground inland may see gusts to 70 mph at times.

* Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
* Some roads and bridges likely to close
* There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
* Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life and probably some damage to buildings and trees, such as tiles blown from roofs and branches on roads
* Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties

To this we add:

* Make sure everything outside is secure, or brought inside
* Keep away from trees and move cars from their vicinity
* Carry out an inspection of your site and the trees once winds abate to see if there are any obvious problems requiring remedy.

All the best.

Bill

DS Risk Warning: Cyber Critical Update

Critical Update With thanks to our NPs the S W Cyber Resilience Centre, we bring you their updated advice. Please pay close attention to it, regardless that it flows from the attacks on the retail sector. The approach taken can be applied anywhere! The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has issued a critical warning following a wave of cyber attacks on major UK retailers including M&S, Co-op and Harrods. These incidents appear to involve criminals impersonating IT help desks to trick staff into revealing login credentials, a technique known as social engineering.   We’re issuing this urgent message to all SWCRC members to raise awareness and encourage immediate action.   What’s happening?   A group calling itself DragonForce has contacted the BBC to claim responsibility for recent breaches. Their tactics include:        •     Phoning IT staff pretending to be locked-out employees       •     Calling or messaging staff pretending to be from internal IT h...

Delegated Services Risk Warning: Whirlpool dryers recall

Hello all, If you have one of these you will have probably already spotted the warnings and concerns, but just in case the BBC are reporting today: The government is to issue an "unprecedented" recall notice of up to 500,000 Whirlpool tumble dryers which pose a fire safety risk. It comes four years after Whirlpool issued a warning after it found its Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit dryers had a fault which needed fixing. The fault was blamed for at least 750 fires over an 11-year period, according to the government. Whirlpool said safety was its "number one priority". It urged anyone still owning an affected to dryer to contact the company immediately on 0800 151 0905. A spokeswoman added: "In the meantime, anyone with an affected dryer that has not been modified  should unplug it and not use it  until the modification has been completed." An estimated 5.3 million dryers were sold in the UK, but it is thought up to 500,000 could still be in use. ...

DS Risk Warning: Health - Coronavirus/Covid 19

Hello all, You may well have already heard or seen that as a result of the Government's meeting today on this issue they have moved to a different level of response to the virus and its progress namely DELAY. After reading the following and reflecting on it you may come to the conclusion a communication to all staff and another to parent/carers would be timely, as soon as possible, to try to stave off issues on site tomorrow morning. With immediate effect the advice is that anyone with a new persistent cough or high temperature should self-isolate for seven days. From Friday, school trips abroad will be banned. This should trigger the ability to claim from your insurers but there's no compensation for the disappointment and lost opportunity, of course. Older people and those with pre-existing health conditions are being told not to go on cruises. PM Boris Johnson said it was "the worst public health crisis for a generation".   He said there was no...
