DS Risk Warning: Weather

As you know we don't bother you with Yellow warnings, unless perhaps for snow, (especially the yellow sort!) however the Met Office have issued an Amber warning for all of our patch covering the period between Midday Sat 3rd and 6 Am on Sun 4th for heavy rain bringing some flooding and transport disruption.

They say:

What to expect

* Homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
* Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life
* Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely
* Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
* A good chance some communities are cut off by flooded roads.

Further details

A band of rain will become slow moving and heavy across Wales, the West Midlands and into southwest England. This is likely to bring flooding and some disruption to travel. Many places will see 25-50 mm of rainfall, with totals of 70-90 mm expected over higher ground of Wales and southwest England as well as the potential for over 120 mm in some of the most exposed high ground of Snowdonia and Exmoor. The unusual wind direction associated with the rainfall will mean that the peak rainfall totals are likely to occur in some areas that are usually well sheltered and drier during unsettled spells of weather.

DS says:

On the basis of the above you may wish to plan visits on Saturday to ensure falling leaves and other debris do not block drains, guttering, downpipes, etc, and that a further visit takes place on Sunday morning to check all's well and 'business' can resume on Monday.

As there has been quite strong gusts of wind today as well a good visual inspection of trees, any aerials or masts, etc, is also a good idea.

DS Risk Warning: UK raises terror threat level to ‘severe’ following Vienna attack

  Home Secretary Priti Patel has confirmed the escalation of the UK terror threat level from "substantial" to "severe" following an attack in Vienna that left at least three dead. The change means that an attack on UK soil is now deemed "highly likely". The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre has changed the UK terror threat level from substantial to severe. This is a precautionary measure and is not based on any specific threat. The potential is for UK based 'lone wolfs' to be emboldened to take action themselves which could take place anywhere in the UK. We are asked to continue to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police on 999 or the anti-terrorist hotline: 0800 789 321. Hello all, You may well have already heard or seen that as a result of the Government's meeting today on this issue they have moved to a different level of response to the virus and its progress namely DELAY. After reading the following and reflecting on it you may come to the conclusion a communication to all staff and another to parent/carers would be timely, as soon as possible, to try to stave off issues on site tomorrow morning. With immediate effect the advice is that anyone with a new persistent cough or high temperature should self-isolate for seven days. From Friday, school trips abroad will be banned. This should trigger the ability to claim from your insurers but there's no compensation for the disappointment and lost opportunity, of course.
