Hello all,
Thermals on!
The Met office have issued a:
Yellow warning of snow and ice
Here's the Chief Forecaster's assessment
During winter weather which brings snow showers, it is not uncommon for snow amounts to vary considerably across short distances. On Friday and Saturday, the snow showers could lead to snow accumulations which vary markedly across the warning area. Strong northwest winds may cause drifting of the snow in places with blizzard conditions possible across northern Scotland.
The warning area is shown below as skirting Weston-super-Mare and lies to the west of that. It does cover travel to work and home areas in S. Wales and the Mendips to be aware of.
- Please note our travel to work and home areas are affected at the lower end of the warning severity but take into account the chief forecasters words.
- From:
- 0005 on Fri 8 December
- To:
- 1800 on Sat 9 December
- All the best.

During Friday, increasingly frequent snow showers already affecting parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England will extend across many other northern and western parts of the UK. 2-5 cm of snow is likely fairly widely, with 10-20 cm in places, mainly northern Scotland, Northern Ireland, north Wales and perhaps the northwest Midlands. Icy surfaces are also likely to be an additional hazard, especially overnight. The heaviest and most frequent snow showers will progressively become confined to northeast Scotland during Saturday.
Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers with possible delays and cancellations to rail and air travel. Some rural communities could be cut off and power supplies interrupted.
Probably some icy stretches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy and snowy surfaces.
This warning has been updated to extend east to include more of the Pennines.
