DS Risk Warning: Weather

Hello all, The Met office forecast for Thursday into Friday and Friday into Saturday has worsened, as follows, with the majority of our customer and travel to work area now covered by an Amber Warning. On the periphery of the Amber area there's a Yellow Warning. Amber =   There is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting you, which could potentially disrupt your plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property. Amber means you need to be prepared to change your plans and protect you, your family and community from the impacts of the severe weather based on the forecast from the Met Office Snow and Ice between Thursday 14:00 and Friday 08:00 hrs. There is the potential for a spell of snow, moving northwards over southern Britain on Thursday, to intensify and become heavy on Thursday afternoon/evening as it spreads north. As it does so, some places could also see significant ice

DS Risk Warning: Health Equipment

Hello all, Although this won't apply to many, it is potentially relevant to some of our customers and possibly of use privately too. Bill Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency - Aquilon Medical Nebulisers: people urged to stop use immediately People and healthcare organisations are being urged to check if they have the affected Aquilon series of nebulisers. Following withdrawal of CE certification for the Aquilon series of nebulisers, the manufacturer has continued to place the nebulisers on the market. We have issued a  Medical Device Alert  to all relevant healthcare professionals. The affected nebulisers and packaging do have a CE mark placed on them, however this has not been obtained through appropriate regulatory oversight and therefore, their safety cannot be assured. A medical device cannot be marketed in Europe without carrying a CE mark. It is applied by the manufacturer and means that the device meets the relevant regulatory re

DS Risk Warning; Weather

Hello all, The Met Office has updated its Yellow Warnings. First tomorrow's has altered but please note still covers Gloucester and S. Wales through to Wiltshire and Swindon. The M4 might be a dividing line!: Between 00:05 Tue 27th and 23:55 Tue 27th Snow showers or longer periods of snow are expected on Tuesday, accompanied by very low temperatures. This update removes much of southwest England, which now looks less likely to be affected. There is the potential for travel delays on roads, with some stranded vehicles and passengers, as well as delays or cancellations to rail and air travel. Some rural communities could become cut off. Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected. There is now a warning for Thursday, inconveniently from midday for the whole of our area and travel to work zone. This will be very difficult to call. Greater certainty will emerge tomorrow and Wednesday. Potentially traffic on roads can keep them

DS Risk Warning: Weather; Snow

Hello all, Not a yellow snow warning but a Yellow Warning of Snow by the Met Office has been issued across our customer area for Tuesday as follows: Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset, Swindon, Wiltshire, valid from 0005 Tue 27 Feb to 2355 Tue 27 Feb. Studying the map that supports the warning the area extends into and includes South Wales to the edge of Swansea with the boundary drawn from there to Liverpool. A further warning is issued for a lesser area for Wednesday as follows: Gloucestershire, Somerset, Swindon & Wiltshire valid from 0005 Wed 28 Feb to 2355 Wed 28 Feb . At this stage there is then a suggestion that Friday may be the next snow event. We'll keep an eye on it and get back to you as things firm up. I've provided more detail below. From this it will be seen that there are all sorts of variables in play so it is difficult to say what will happen where. As we know

DS Risk Warning: Weather; Freezing conditions to last into spring

Hello all, You will want to factor this warning information in when planning for and thinking about: * emergency drills, but also for alarm activations where you don't know how long you will be outside and will need to make a decision sooner rather than later to seek warm shelter at your fall back points while the problem is addressed * for break and lunchtime as well as any off-site visits, and * when considering staff and/or pupil medical conditions. All the best. Bill Conditions over the weekend and into the early part of next week will become increasingly cold, possibly exceptionally cold. A Yellow  National Severe Weather Warning  for snow is in force for parts of eastern and southeast England from 4pm on Monday and through Tuesday. Snow showers are expected to develop widely, with some locations likely to see accumulations of 5 to 10 cm. Although other sites may see less frequent showers leading to much smaller accumulations up to 2 cm. The

DS Risk Warning: Finance; School Fraud - Chief Executive Officer

Hello all, This Fraud warning is one to look out for. Bill Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Fraud – Schools Targeted The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) has seen an increase in recent weeks in the volume of CEO Fraud reports whereby schools are the targeted victim. This has resulted in substantial financial losses for several schools that have fallen victim to this type of fraud.   A school is targeted by a fraudster who purports to be the Head Teacher / Principal. The fraudster contacts a member of staff with responsibility for authorising financial transfers and requests for a one off, often urgent, bank transfer to be made. The amounts requested have been between £8,000 and £10,000.  Contact is made by email and from a spoofed / similar email address to the one the Head Teacher / Principal would use. PROTECTION / PREVENTION ADVICE Ensure that you have robust processes in place to verify and corroborate all requests to change any supplier or paymen

DS: Risk Warning; Health - Scarlet Fever

Hello all, This is just out at the same time as another local case was notified to us! The detail is self explanatory and hopefully useable by copy and paste to use in giving a 'heads up' to your community. In the education establishments, the holiday week for pupils may help break the cycle, but please be vigilant when all are back in T4. All the best. Bill Public Health England urges vigilance about spotting signs of scarlet fever Public Health England (PHE) is advising parents to be aware of the signs and symptoms of scarlet fever following a substantial increase in reported cases across England in 2017 to 2018. Scarlet fever is a very contagious, seasonal bacterial illness that mainly affects children and is not uncommon for this time of year. The latest  Health Protection Report  showed 6,225 cases of scarlet fever had been reported since mid-September 2017, compared to 3,764 for the same period last season. There were 719 cases reported for t
